Biker Baby

Ellie is getting to be a big girl! She finally convinced us to take her training wheels off and is learning how to ride by herself. Tonight we took her to a park with a big parking lot and she impressed Dave and I with how quickly she was learning to kick off, turn, etc. She would get very frustrated with herself when she couldn't do it perfectly the first time but we reminded her that you have to practice before you become good at anything. It's fun to watch Ellie learn these new skills and life lessons.

Fringe Benefits

Dave, Ellie and I enjoyed a wonderful Labor Day holiday this past weekend. We started out our morning attending the Garland Labor Day parade. It is a huge parade that draws high schools from all over Garland and the surrounding cities as well as all sorts of politicians, scout groups, dignitaries, dance groups, etc. We were lucky enough to get great seats in the shade and had a fun time watching the parade and having candy and beads and fliers thrown to/at us. Ellie was in heaven with all the candy, it was like a Halloween preview but better because the candy came to us! Just like last year when we watched this parade, I was blown away by the unique style that Texans adopt for their cheer, pep, and pom teams. Apparently it is illegal to have a team uniform unless there is some amount of fringe on it. In most cases a large amount of fringe. My favorite, and I'm so sad I didn't get a picture of it, were the South Garland cheerleaders. Super frilly short skirts over big poofy petticoats, and of course, fringe on top. The band behind them was proudly playing "Dixie". All I can say is "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore, Toto." We labored that afternoon, Dave on the yard and me on triple chocolate ganache cupcakes, then ended with a fun party and BBQ with Danny and Becky. It was a fun family day.

So we had some recent good news. Charity and I should be welcoming in a new little Zincke into our family around April 12th. Miracles never cease.
